Council approves demolition of 325 Broad Street; staff outline conceptual redevelopment options

The council approved a motion to demolish the building at 325 Broad Street in Menasha. Alderman Eisenach moved the demolition and Alderman Perkins seconded; the motion carried on a roll call vote of 7–0.
Council members asked staff about the timing of demolition to avoid conflict with a local car show and about possible future uses of the parcel. Director Dane said the preferred timing would be after August 20 to accommodate events in adjacent parking areas and said the city has conceptual designs for the site that include possible senior housing, apartments or condominiums on Chute Street and townhomes along Broad Street. He added the city has completed environmental work with no issues and that future redevelopment depends on solving related matters such as parking agreements and the future of the senior center.
Council did not attach specific conditions to the demolition approval at the meeting; staff said they will coordinate scheduling and return to council with additional information on redevelopment options as appropriate.
