Council approves payment plan to restore water service after homeowner's leak
Summary
A homeowner who repaired a busted pipe himself after two months was ineligible for a leak credit under town policy requiring a licensed plumber; the council approved a payment plan of three payments of $736.10 plus the regular monthly bill, with the first payment required to restore service and the plan to be paid off by June 1.

Mr. Ramirez reported a busted water pipe under his house that led to a large bill and asked for a sewer credit. Administrator Erin Braband told the council Mr. Ramirez repaired the leak himself two months after notification and the Town's leak credit policy requires repairs by a licensed plumber; consequently staff could not issue a credit and the Town had disconnected service for nonpayment.
Commissioner Brian Schmidt moved to create a payment plan requiring three payments of $736.10 in addition to the regular monthly bill, with the first payment of $736.10 required to restore water service; the plan must be paid off by June 1 and failure to make a payment would result in service being disconnected again. President Newnam seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The council did not alter the leak‑credit policy at the meeting; the payment plan was framed as a one-time arrangement to restore service under the existing policy framework.
