Council flags lake aerator failure, erosion and prohibited trash dumping near Gem Lake

Council members reported a series of maintenance and drainage problems affecting the Town’s lakes and Preserve. Members said the aeration bubbler at the west end of the lake is not working and should be repaired or replaced. Council also noted that a barricade at the north end of the Preserve is in poor condition; councilors said a planned fence at a nearby Shannondale property where a new house will be built may address the access issue.
The Council recorded that Pete Flagg replaced a cut combination lock on the gate at a billboard lot to consolidate access for the Town’s contractors. Separately, members raised a concern about a lawn maintenance company for properties on Lang Road placing vegetation in an area adjacent to Gem Lake for Waste Management pickup. Council said windblown trash and vegetation are entering the canal that drains to the Lake Worth Lagoon/Intracoastal Waterway and causing erosion. The Town cited the Palm Beach County National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) agreement with the state and advised that the property owner cannot use that area for trash collection.
No formal ordinance change or penalty was recorded at the meeting; Council directed appropriate notification to the property owner and identified the aerator and erosion issues as items for follow up.
