CDD hears resilience briefing; staff to participate in multi‑agency storm surge planning

Eric Long briefed the board on an action plan Pelican Sound is developing to build resilience against storms and climate impacts over the next five to ten years. The plan would include creating an advisory/review panel and coordinating with County and State agencies; Long said the Army Corps had presented ideas for Collier County should funding become available.
Using a hypothetical from topographic mapping, Long said a 10‑ to 12‑foot storm surge could have flooded 45% to 55% of the community under certain conditions, and he urged the CDD to participate in planning and designate board and staff representatives to help coordinate. Mr. Long asked for board support and assistance; the consensus was that Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill will assist and Mr. Krebs is authorized to help as necessary.
Counsel noted funding and intergovernmental coordination would be required and that addressing the issue could take a decade and require multiple agencies; no funding or formal agreements were authorized at the meeting.
