Kiowa community center seeks relief worker, grant for handicap van; holiday event cost reported

Laura Goss, of the Nutrition Center, told the council the Community Center needs a relief worker and recommended hiring Carla Scott as a substitute to cover for absent employees.
Goss said she is working on obtaining a grant that could provide a handicap-accessible van for the Community Center. Council member T.S. Barker offered to connect her with a contact at a foundation in McAlester who might assist with the effort.
L. Shows reported that the combined cost for the Children's Christmas Party (gifts, pizza), employee Christmas dinner and Senior Center gifts totaled $3,741.00; the employee Christmas dinner alone cost $650.00 this year.
Separately, D. Drake and L. Shows met with a group identified in the minutes as Tenasca (the minutes contain inconsistent spellings) which indicated willingness to assist with senior programs, Founders Day and July 4 activities in 2026.
