Rainier awards multiple public works bids totaling $664,859

Public Works Director Russ Reigel presented a package of recommended bids and the council approved each by motion. Approved items included painting the senior center ($19,790, Five Star Homes); parts to rebuild filters at the water treatment plant ($98,824); Richards Drive asphalt ($19,800, Mike George Paving); East E Street water-line work ($75,000) and East E Street paving ($125,000, Mike George Paving); a Supplemental Environmental Project for C Street ($135,000, budgeted); rehabilitation of 1,000 feet of sewer line on the west side of town ($80,000); pipe bursting from Fernhill to Highway 30 ($18,000); repairs to the centrifuge at the wastewater plant ($64,000); and engineering work for Phase 1A of wastewater plant upgrades ($29,445). Those amounts sum to about $664,859.

Councilors moved and seconded the individual approvals as Reigel recommended the low or preferred bidders in each case; all motions were adopted with recorded unanimous votes where noted. Several of the projects are capital or maintenance items listed in the current budget; the C Street supplemental environmental project was described as already included in the budget.
