Rainier council approves water, sewer and stormwater fees and removes automatic CPI annual adjustment

The Rainier City Council approved a series of resolutions adopting residential and commercial sewer and water rates, rates for users outside the city, and a stormwater management fee. For multiple resolutions (26-06-05 through 26-06-10) councilors moved to remove the section that would have required the base rate to be adjusted each July 1 by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (West Region, Pacific Division) as published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; the amended motions were adopted.
Councilor Scott Cooper led amended motions to approve several of the rate resolutions (after withdrawing an initial motion in one case) and Councilor Denise Watson seconded at least one of the amended motions. The votes on the amended resolutions were recorded as in favor by Councilors Budge, Cooper, duPlessis, Kreger and Watson with none opposed. Public comments in the meeting included concerns about the impacts that proposed utility rate increases will have on citizens.
