The New Smyrna Beach special magistrate on Aug. 27 approved a lien-amnesty agreement reducing the outstanding fine for 430 Bushell Drive to $16,650, inclusive of forgiven interest. City staff told the magistrate the property owner originally faced more than $37,000 in fines before the negotiated reduction and that the new amount must be paid within 15 business days.
"I'll go ahead and enter a fine or an order, reducing the fine to $16,650 to be paid within 15 days of today's date," Special Magistrate Mark Watts said when announcing the order. The applicant's representative, Kim Booker of Booker and Associates, confirmed the owner "can pay it today." The magistrate then entered the order as stated.
The action resolves a continued lien-amnesty request that had been discussed at previous hearings. The updated order and payment timetable will be reflected in the official docket; the magistrate reminded parties of the 30-day appeal window to circuit court for any party that wants to challenge the order.
