The County Administrator reported the county is working with local partners on a housing and tax‑base expansion strategy that would place a jointly funded resource in Greater Bemidji to pursue grants and development opportunities. He said the strategy was presented to the Greater Bemidji board and will be presented to the city council on Aug. 17 and to the county board on Aug. 18 so both elected bodies receive the same information.
The administrator said the intent is for multiple organizations to share the cost of a staff position or office to pursue grant funding and development projects; he and commissioners described this as a way to capture state and federal dollars and accelerate housing projects that support workforce needs. The administrator said, if approved by participants, the work could officially begin in the near future and that staff would incorporate feedback from partner meetings into a revised strategic plan for those August presentations.
