Dawson County commissioners approved several public-works and safety funding items at the Nov. 20 meeting. The board approved continuation of the FY2026 Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) grant with a local match of $109,582.28. The motion passed 4-0.
The board also approved a resolution authorizing the Department of Public Works to proceed with necessary property acquisitions and property-rights steps related to the Lumpkin Campground Road at State Route 53 intersection improvement project, with $480,000 allocated from Transportation SPLOST funds. The motion passed unanimously (Gaines/Turkett). County staff indicated the funding source and directed Public Works to proceed.
