Council reallocates $30,000 from tennis courts to replace hazardous Benzinger Park bridge

City staff told council that engineering and bid review for Benzinger Park's walking-bridge replacement showed increased costs because the bridge needs to be relocated upstream. Chuck (speaker 13) explained parks originally budgeted $17,000 for the bridge and $30,000 for tennis-court resurfacing; council voted to reallocate that $30,000 to cover bridge relocation and replacement, and to delay tennis-court resurfacing to a later year.
"Right now, it's closed down as a safety hazard," the treasurer said when describing the bridge condition. Staff said they have quotes for fabrication and installation and that construction will proceed once contracts are executed. The Parks & Rec Board had been made aware of the need and agreed it should be completed.
Council approved Resolution 26-18 by voice vote. Staff said the bridge relocation increased project cost estimates, requiring the funding shift from resurfacing to the bridge replacement.
