City approves contract to rebuild North Headworks bar screen, authorizes $1,000 change order authority

Mister McNamee explained the facility has three bar screens installed in 1998 and that the city’s CIP currently budgets $75,000 per unit for three years; Hydrodyne Engineering provided a not-to-exceed equipment quote of $69,311.25 and CAS Construction quoted $11,725 for removal and installation, bringing the total to $81,036.25. Staff requested $1,000 in change-order authority for the removal/installation work.
Mister McNamee said the refurbishment will return the unit to near-new performance and reduce near-term catastrophic failure risk. “We probably wouldn’t do the electrical ourselves,” McNamee said while describing the removal and crane work required; commissioners asked about redundancy and bids and the commission approved the contracts and the change-order authority.
