Reinbeck council closes property tax levy hearing after administrator projects nearly flat levy

City Administrator Julie Wilkerson told the Reinbeck City Council at a special meeting April 6 that the current certified property tax levy is $12.10487 and that, while holding the budget constant would have pushed the levy to $11.87046, projected employee wage and benefit increases and higher insurance costs raise the levy to $12.10245 for the coming fiscal year.
Wilkerson presented the levy-rate comparisons during the Proposed Property Tax Levy Hearing, saying the changes in personnel costs and insurance were the drivers of the higher projected rate. The city held the hearing for public comment; the record shows there were no written or oral comments for or against the proposal.
Councilmember Johnson moved to close the hearing; Councilmember Trepp seconded. The council voted 4 ayes and the motion carried, with the hearing officially closed at 5:05 p.m. Councilmember Bueghly moved to adjourn the special meeting, seconded by Councilmember Wambold; that motion also passed 4-0 and the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
