Reinbeck council advances utility rate increases with unanimous first reading

The Reinbeck City Council opened a public hearing at 6:03 p.m. on May 4, 2026 to consider two proposed ordinances that would change municipal utility rates. Mayor Jamie Eiffler presided and council members recorded that water rates would rise by 2% and garbage and recycling rates would each increase by $0.50.
With no oral or written comments from the public, Council member Wambold moved to close the hearing at 6:05 p.m.; the motion carried on a unanimous voice vote. Council then gave Ordinance #2026-06OR (water service rates) and Ordinance #2026-07OR (garbage & recycling services) their first consideration on a roll call vote of 5–0 (Wambold, Pease, Johnson, Trepp, Bueghly). The council set the second reading for June 1, 2026. The ordinances will not take effect unless adopted at a subsequent reading and published according to city rules.
