Merchantville approves shared-services agreement with Haddon Township for certified tax collector

The Borough Council approved a shared-services agreement (R26-62) with Haddon Township on May 11 to retain Ryan Giles, the Certified Tax Collector employed by Haddon Township, to perform Merchantville’s tax-collector duties from June 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027. Merchantville will pay Haddon Township $25,000 for the service, with 80% allocated as salary to Giles and 20% retained by Haddon Township for employment costs. Payments are scheduled quarterly at $6,250 on July 15, Oct. 15, Jan. 15 and April 15.
The agreement clarifies that Giles will remain an employee of Haddon Township rather than Merchantville, and includes standard audit, indemnification, notice, affirmative action, funding-subject-to-appropriation, and termination-on-60-days provisions. Council adopted the agreement as presented.
