Linda McCuen, an English teacher at Proctor High School, and student Emily Williams told the Selectboard about a service-learning project to build a Story Walk on the Pine Hill Park trail. The project grew from an outdoor English course where students learned trail building and focused on walkability so people of all ages can use the route. The first Story Walk book will be Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner, and the author is scheduled to visit both the elementary school and the high school; students will also read Breakout by the same author.
A grant provided materials for the installation and the opening was scheduled for May 28, 2025. Selectboard member Linda Doty asked about a south entrance signpost to match the library post; she will contact Stafford to arrange a similar signpost.
