The Borough Council of Merchantville on May 11 adopted its 2026 municipal budget (R26-58), authorizing $6,580,814.82 for municipal purposes. The budget document certified a local tax for municipal purposes of $4,695,349.12 and listed total general revenues of $6,276,524.98.
Council moved and adopted the budget on a motion by Councilman Anthony Perno, seconded by Councilman Ray Woods. The budget summary in the resolution lists a $200,000 surplus, $1,191,175.86 in miscellaneous revenues and $190,000 projected receipts from delinquent taxes. Total general appropriations are recorded at $6,276,524.98 and the municipality reported a workforce of 52 employees for 2026.
The adoption of the budget follows the procedural resolution (R26-57) allowing the budget to be read by title only, which the council passed earlier in the meeting citing N.J.S. 40A:4-8. With adoption, the budget will be transmitted to the County Board of Taxation as required by statute.
