A UNFPA representative urged donors and partners to prioritize reproductive-health care and gender-based-violence services in the recovery from the Northern Venezuela earthquakes, saying those sectors are "often overlooked in emergency response and chronically underfunded."
The representative described UNFPA's priorities as scaling up life-saving reproductive-health services and strengthening prevention and response to gender-based violence following the quake. "UNFPA has been responding to this crisis since day 1 to scale up life saving reproductive health services and strengthen gender based violence prevention and response," the official said.
The statement did not include specific funding targets, timelines, or donor commitments. It called for increased attention and resources while noting that UNFPA will continue to work "alongside the authorities and partners for as long as it takes for families to get back on their feet."
Without a donor response recorded in the statement, the representative framed the appeal as both an operational update and a call to action to address gaps in emergency funding for health and protection services.
