Representative John Vanderwaute presented House Bill 730 to the House Health and Welfare Committee, saying the measure would require the Department to interface with databases (including lottery winnings over $3,000, death records and incarceration data), flag patterns of out-of-state EBT use, end broad-based categorical eligibility for asset alignment with federal standards, and strengthen identity and lawful-presence verification to limit benefits to U.S. citizens and lawful residents.
After testimony and questions from members, a motion to send HB 730 to the full House with a due-pass recommendation was put to a roll-call vote. The clerk recorded the vote as 14 yes and 2 no; the chair announced, "Motion carries 14 to 2," and the committee indicated Representative Vanderwaute would carry the bill to the floor.
