FGCU names internships as its new performance-based funding metric

Provost Debbie Thorne recommended that FGCU adopt the "Percentage of Bachelor’s Degree Completers with Internships" as the institution’s PBF Metric #10 under the Board of Governors’ updated PBF Model 2.0. She told trustees that FGCU already outperformed the SUS average, reporting 38.5 percent internship participation in 2024–25 (about 1,175 of 3,051 graduating students). "FGCU was already a leader in this area," Thorne said, and she asked the Board to authorize her to finalize methodology and benchmarks with the Board of Governors.
Trustee Joseph Fogg said he supported the choice after further analysis and discussion with President Timur, and Trustee Larry Antonucci moved approval. The motion passed unanimously. Trustees cited FGCU investments in the Office of Internships and Cooperative Programs as aligning the metric with the University's strategic plan and workforce-alignment goals.
