The speaker said the fee will be $35 (down from $25 previously quoted in some locations) and that rabies and other vaccines will be available; additional vaccine dates are planned for September and November.
The commissioner said the program averages about 32 procedures twice a week and encouraged residents to bring animals for sterilization to control the pet population. The county is coordinating with local shelters; one shelter contact (Alice) may perform free sterilizations for animals that are put up for adoption and will operate a trap program for stray cats charging $10 per cat for release, with adoptable animals processed at no charge.
