Food-service director reports negative balance last year; district seeks operational fixes instead of immediate meal-price hikes

Jones said the district is not recommending a new meal-price increase this year and instead will pursue measures including menu planning, cooperative purchasing, bidding milk contracts and shifting staff hours where possible. He said participation is down in some sites and that the district will explore ways to increase breakfast participation at specific schools that qualify for universal free meals. Board members asked for additional details and Jones agreed to return with further information on the proposed adjustments.
