ICfL reports 350 responses to first-phase needs assessment; focus groups to follow

State Librarian Dylan Baker told the board that the first phase of the Idaho Library Needs Assessment collected 350 responses from across the state and from multiple types of libraries. Respondents ranked grants, financial assistance and professional training as the most valuable ICfL services and identified lack of time and staff as primary barriers.
Baker said the next phase will include focus groups and one-on-one discussions and will inform the upcoming LSTA five-year evaluation. Commissioners encouraged using survey quotes and findings in external communications and suggested outreach to libraries experiencing leadership transitions.
