At the May 1 meeting, Public Library Consultant Clay Ritter presented statewide FY2025 public library statistics showing a roughly 40% increase in reported expenditures and rising circulation per capita and program attendance compared with recent years. Ritter said program attendance is recovering after pandemic declines and that total internet use is also trending upward.
Ritter noted that interlibrary loans were down but said the “dramatic drop” was partly explained by one consortium’s misunderstanding of the definition between a loan and an interlibrary loan, affecting statewide totals. He told the board he plans to add or revise data categories, including reference transactions and outreach vehicles/bookmobiles, and will monitor national trends to improve the statewide data collection.
