Board amends GGUSD conflict-of-interest code after staff promotions, welcomes new general counsel

The Garden Grove Unified School District board approved an amendment to the district’s conflict-of-interest code to add newly created and reclassified positions after recent staffing changes.
Staff said the Political Reform Act of 1974 requires agencies to maintain a designated list of positions that must disclose certain private economic interests; the board noted the March 3 promotion of Lorena Sanchez into a vacant associate superintendent role and the April 7 adoption of a new classified senior-management general counsel position as reasons the code needed updating.
During the meeting Chair Bob Harden introduced Patrick Saldana as the incoming general counsel, who is scheduled to join the district on July 1. Trustees offered welcomes and said having counsel regularly in meetings will help with district governance.
The board completed a roll-call vote to approve the amendment. The action was presented as a housekeeping update to reflect current staffing and to ensure the district meets state reporting requirements under the Political Reform Act.
