GGUSD board approves $3.7 million CTE incentive grant application, requires 2:1 district match

The Garden Grove Unified School District board voted to authorize the district’s application for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) incentive grant from the California Department of Education, an anticipated award just under $3,700,000 for the 2026–27 cycle.
Staff explained the grant requires a 2-to-1 local match. In response to a trustee’s question about whether the paperwork and matching obligation are worthwhile, district staff and the chair clarified that the district already expends local funds on CTE programs and that some matching dollars come from annual Carl Perkins grant awards.
The board concluded that the grant funding would reimburse or offset costs the district is already incurring to sustain and expand CTE programs. Trustee questions focused on administrative burden and value; staff responded that funding would support program sustainability and expansion.
The motion to apply for the CTE incentive grant was included in the multi-item motion for items 5a through 5f and was approved by roll-call vote.
