Staff said the changes follow lessons learned over three years of implementing the policy and after discussion with user groups and the Parks & Recreation Committee, which unanimously recommended the updates.
Parks Director Story (speaker 26) told council the city will designate reservable spaces only where infrastructure can support expected attendance, and staff will continue evening park monitoring to enforce first‑come, first‑serve spaces. “We are changing the list of which parks are reservable... We will only be designating reservable spaces to fields that have a restroom facility and some parking,” he said.
