Garden Connection honored for 20 years of downtown beautification

The Garden Connection’s representative told the council the group began in 2006 to provide a no‑dues, informal space for people interested in gardening to exchange ideas. “This is our 20th year of being in existence,” the presenter said, describing monthly meetings and projects including a pollinator planter and downtown planters.
The proclamation, read by the mayor, calls the Garden Connection a local nonprofit that “offers educational opportunities to the community to learn sustainable gardening practices” and recognizes the group’s role in enhancing public spaces. The mayor presented the signed proclamation to the group and asked staff to take photos for the city’s Facebook page.
Group members on hand included Donna Messenger, Bridal Breckheisen, Tina Regg and Ruthie Rotten, who joined the presenter at the council dais to receive the honor. The presentation emphasized the volunteer nature of the organization and the city’s partnership to buy flowers and provide watering support.
The council did not take formal action beyond presenting the proclamation. The Garden Connection said it meets on the last Thursday of each month and invites volunteers to participate.
