Chief Jeff Short told the mayor and council that Gould was selected through a competitive hiring process that included a panel of neighboring jurisdictions and in-house evaluators. "Alex rose to the top, and it was a clear choice," Short said, noting Gould's prior work at the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Bonner Springs Police Department and service in the U.S. Army.
Short described the role as a specialty assignment requiring specific skills and experience beyond patrol duties. Council members welcomed Gould and noted his family ties and that he expects to be a local resident soon.
The council took no formal vote on the hire during the meeting; the introduction served to place the new officer on the public record and welcome him to the community.
