WSAC reports staff diversity gains and new Ballmer Group funding
Summary
WSAC told the council it raised staff-of-color representation from just over 15% in 2021 to just over 35% in recent years, attributing gains to blind screening and remote work; the agency also announced Ballmer Group funding to support Regional Challenge Grant and OtterBot work.

Executive Director Michael Meotti told the Washington Student Achievement Council that WSAC pursued changes to recruitment and hiring to better reflect the populations it serves. "In 2021, just over 15 percent of WSAC’s workforce were people of color," Meotti said, and the agency has increased that share to "just over 35 percent" in recent years by implementing blind screening and expanding remote work options.
Meotti also reported that WSAC received funding from the Ballmer Group to support ongoing work with the Regional Challenge Grant program and a tool referenced as OtterBot. He said the Ballmer Group has no state-match requirement and that the partnership will focus on evaluating "what works" among partners and how data are used to drive improvement.
