Basehor Civic Campus wins KRPA outstanding park project award

The Basehor City Council on Feb. 11 accepted recognition that the Basehor Civic Campus received the 2026 Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) Outstanding Park Project award. Deputy City Administrator Maddie Boughton presented the award and said City Administrator Lehi Riverola and she accepted it on the city’s behalf.
The campus, which opened in August 2024, sits on 37 acres and includes a splash pad, inclusive playground, amphitheater, event lawn, fishing pond and walking trails that connect to the Metro Bridge Trail network. A KRPA video shown at the meeting noted that more than 70% of funding for the trail system came from grants. “When you’re here, we want you to feel at home because that is what you deserve,” Boughton said in her remarks, praising staff and resident engagement in planning.
Boughton highlighted how staff engaged elementary students and residents in design workshops and said the campus was intentionally built for accessibility and multi-generational use. The council and staff encouraged continued community programming at the campus and thanked the planning and parks staff for coordinating grant funding and outreach.
