Highway supervisor highlights culvert sizing and town weighs beaver management policy

Allen Wight told the Selectboard that several localized storms caused concentrated runoff flows that revealed Culvert 48 is undersized for current volumes, contributing to the edge washing on Route 132. He said the culvert itself did not fail but the undersized capacity compromised the road’s edge.
Town Administrator Nicola Shipman said the Conservation Commission will step up to support creation of a formal beaver management policy and implement education and volunteer oversight. Shipman also submitted the PACIF risk-management recommendations related to volunteer hand clearing of culverts and asked permission to solicit competitive quotes for an at-risk maple in front of the Old Town Hall after no bids were received.
