Curriculum committee recommends Arts & Letters pilot for full Board consideration

On April 2, 2026, the Regional School District No. 20 Curriculum Committee reviewed the Plumb Hill Middle School pilot of the Arts & Letters English Language Arts curriculum and indicated support for forwarding the program to the full Board of Education for potential adoption. The meeting was held at Lakeview High School and by teleconference; Chair Margaret Hunt called the meeting to order at 4:32 p.m.
Pam Vecca, principal of Plumb Hill Middle School, and a team of ELA teachers presented the pilot results for grades 6–8. Presenters reported "improved student engagement, instructional consistency," curriculum lesson formats that fit 50-minute class periods, and vertical alignment with K–5. Teachers identified in the minutes include Val Leifert (ELA, Grade 6), Kim Thompson (ELA, Grade 6), Christy Concilio (ELA, Grades 7 & 8), and Melissa Swanson (ELA, Grade 8). After questions from committee members were addressed, Chair Margaret Hunt polled the committee and, as a group, members indicated support for moving the Arts & Letters curriculum to the full Board of Education for potential adoption.
The committee did not record a formal roll-call vote on adoption at this meeting; the recorded action is a recommendation/referral to the full Board for consideration. The next formal step is the full Board of Education review and any subsequent adoption vote.
