The committee recommended seven priorities: improve South Windsor Street sidewalks and crossings as priority one; redesign the Railroad/Safford intersections and add a sidewalk under the railroad underpass; make existing sidewalks ADA-compliant; extend Safford Street sidewalk to the school; improve Park Street/Railroad Street crosswalks; add new sidewalk sections where gaps exist; and add sidewalks along the Village Green and South Windsor Street.
The board voted to accept the committee's recommendations and authorized staff to direct the engineer on retainer to proceed with conceptual designs, prioritizing items in the given order in case the full slate cannot be completed within the subaward. "The engineer firm ... think they can get all 7 done, but we wanted to prioritize them in case they weren't able to fit all 7 into the 15,000," staff said; the board adopted the priorities by voice vote.
