A resident petition asking the Selectboard to pave South Street was presented during public comment and taken up by the board. "Claire Porter, a resident on South Street, has submitted an official petition hoping to get the town to pave South Street," staff said when introducing the item. Board and highway committee members examined the road conditions and noted decades of deferred maintenance and subsurface issues; highway staff said some sections would require grinding down to the subbase and an assessment of the subbase before repaving.
Highway liaison and road foreman said the larger Pleasant Street repaving project could create an opportunity to add South Street if funds allow. "Get a couple ballpark figures without putting out RFPs...to kinda see where we're gonna maybe land money wise," the liaison suggested; the board agreed to follow up and to respond to the petitioner that the town will study options and consider including the work if funding and engineering allow.
