Select Board declines town payment of invoice for organ retrieval from former St. Paul’s

Gail Gelburd, representing the Historic Commission, asked the board to reconsider an invoice for work related to retrieving and storing an organ that had been removed from the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Gail said the organ was significant and the commission had taken steps to have it returned to the town.
Terry Gould said the voter decision when acquiring the property had been clear that town funds would not be used for restoration and that the town had discouraged retrieval and storage previously. "If Historic intends to continue work on the organ then OPT will need to fund the efforts," Terry said. Terry moved that the invoice not be paid from town funds; Larry Southard seconded and the motion passed, vote 2-0.
