The council heard a presentation from a Kiwanis Club representative proposing interactive, early-learning trail signage and complementary sidewalk art for a trail segment near the library, splash pad and early learning center.
Presenter Kylie described seeing similar signage in another community and organizing local fundraising to purchase a set of about 10 signs through a United Way program. She said partial funding came from a mayoral donation and that the Kiwanis, United Way of Leavenworth County and a local foundation contributed; staff said they had discussed an appropriate location and would coordinate installation. The project team aims to install the signs in April and to roll them out as part of the May 1 Basehor Blooming event, subject to weather and final coordination.
Councilmembers voiced support for the education-focused wayfinding and for involving local art classes for sidewalk painting.
