Middle-school leaders prioritize SEL, WIN time and stricter phone rules to reduce bullying

La Center Middle School administrator Lauri Landerholm told the board the middle school SIP will focus on professional development, continued WIN ("what I need") time for targeted learning and homework help, and an early‑start plan for students who do not meet grade‑level standards. She said this month has included activities to build excitement and that students who start the year below standard will begin with a plan for success.
Landerholm also identified social-emotional learning and mental-health supports as SIP priorities and said restricting social-media use and enforcing a cell‑phone policy (phones off or silenced and kept in backpacks) has reduced phone use at the middle school—an intended step toward decreasing bullying and improving student belonging. The board received the update during a workshop and did not take formal action.
