The Regional School District No. 20 Board of Education adopted six Series 6000 policies at its March 26, 2026 meeting following a brief discussion about field-trip logistics.
The policies approved on second reading were Policy 6153 (Field Trips); Policy 6142 (Basic Instructional Program); Policy 6142.102 (Social and Emotional Learning); Policy 6142.103 (Trauma Informed Schools); Policy 6144.1 (Exemption from Instruction); and Policy 6145 (Extra Class Activities). Billie Jean Sideris moved for approval and Margaret Hunt seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
During discussion one board member asked whether Policy 6153 should explicitly define the starting and ending points of a field trip. Board members emphasized keeping policy language broad to allow administrators to set details in regulation while also balancing practical concerns such as ensuring students travel together on school transportation and managing liability and insurance risks. Tiffany Parkhouse, the board chair, then called for the roll and the policies were adopted.
