Moab's leadership flags staffing shortages and a 2.7% sales-tax decline since July

City Manager Michael Black told the council on Jan. 8 that staffing challenges continue and that housing remains a problem for the city's workforce. He said the uncertain economy is complicating budget preparation and reported that sales tax revenues were down 2.7 percent since July.
Black said many capital improvement projects appear attainable but warned that new ongoing positions are unlikely unless grant-funded. He also noted that water infrastructure bond funds are being used up and raised the prospect of bonding for upgrades. Councilmembers discussed the need to sequence projects and prioritize staff capacity.
