During public comment on Sept. 3, McKenzie, a board member of the East Riverwalk Homeowners Association, told the council the HOA and residents are experiencing ongoing crime and vandalism in East Riverwalk common areas and asked the City for assistance. "There is a lot of crime and vandalism occurring in the East Riverwalk common areas, being committed by youth living in the Canyon Crossing Apartments that are adjacent to the East Riverwalk Community," she said, and added that incidents were frequent during summer months and have somewhat tapered since school resumed.
Council Member Dustin Gettel asked whether incidents occur at particular times of day; McKenzie replied that summer events (including a large organized fight at Bingham Junction after 10 p.m.) were notable and that activity has decreased with the school year. City Manager Matt Dahl told McKenzie he would speak with her in the foyer after the meeting to explore options and next steps. The concern was recorded as public comment with no formal council action taken that evening.
