City staff reported progress on the Walnut Lane project during the Jan. 8, 2026 strategic retreat, saying the outstanding loan has been paid and that property clearing work had advanced to demolition of units. Strategic Initiatives Director Alexi Lamm and Public Works Director Levi Jones said asbestos abatement has delayed final clearance.
Councilmembers and staff described partnerships and impact-fee waivers tied to the project and said the housing pipeline and ownership options remain topics for follow-up. "Walnut Lane progress included paying off the loan, clearing the property except for asbestos abatement delays," the staff report said. Councilmembers urged finishing the wrap-up and connecting the project to broader housing strategies.
