Moab outlines five strategic priorities, emphasizes downtown improvements and disaster mitigation

Moab's leadership reviewed a three-year short-term strategic plan on Jan. 8, 2026, identifying five priorities: downtown improvement, resolving the Walnut Lane project, active transportation, execution of plans, and mitigation of natural disasters. Strategic Initiatives and Sustainability Director Alexi Lamm told the council the city is combining downtown work with active-transportation goals, including streetlamp replacement, crosswalk improvements, sidewalks and new trash and recycling receptacles.
Lamm said Walnut Lane progress includes payoff of the loan and property clearing but that asbestos abatement has delayed final steps. She also listed infrastructure projects tied to natural-disaster mitigation, naming the 300 South bridge replacement, detention basins and work in the Millcreek corridor. "The plan sets priorities for downtown, active transportation and resilience projects," Lamm said.
Council members emphasized implementation and public engagement. Mayor Joette Langianese and multiple councilmembers stressed the need to pair project timelines with community outreach and with funding realities raised later in the retreat. City Manager Michael Black noted several plans need updates, saying the facilities master plan and stormwater plan should be revised as funding permits.
