Resident asks city to reconsider rule after 21-year-old rose bush removed from cemetery

Mike Hall, a 23‑year Midvale resident, used the public comment period to report that a rose bush he had planted at his wifes gravesite 21 years ago was recently cut down. Hall said he believed the small bush had been allowed when planted and told the council he had received conflicting information from city employees about whether the plant had ever been permitted under the cemetery rules.
City Manager Matt Dahl told Mr. Hall he would speak with him in the foyer after the public comment period to discuss the matter. Council Member Dustin Gettel later said he was willing to be the council member to bring a cemetery personal plant exception policy update to an upcoming agenda. The council did not take formal action on the matter during the meeting; Mr. Halls request was recorded as a public comment and staff follow-up was offered.
