The City of Pierre Board of Commissioners approved Oahe Days special-event requests on June 2, 2026, including street closures, use of the amphitheater, vendor utility access, and permission for a beer garden during the June 19–20 festival. The vote followed a presentation by Bryan Tipton, Park and Recreation Director, and passed unanimously.
Julia Diedrich, president of the Oahe Days Committee, described event controls the committee will use for the beer garden, saying the committee will “ID and wristband patrons” and have security on site, and outlined other logistics including staging, street closures and post‑10 p.m. live music. Mayor Harding opened and closed the required public hearing on the temporary alcohol license and the commission approved the license. The minutes record the presentation and approvals but do not include a verbatim transcript of remarks.
The approved requests include use of the amphitheater stage and power supply; street closures on Central Avenue, Missouri Avenue and Island View Drive for carnival operations; loan or removal of picnic tables, benches and city-owned garbage containers; one-call locate assistance and mosquito control; Street Department support for barriers; Electric Department vendor power support; Water Department access for vendors; and authorization for live music in the park after 10 p.m. Fees for the event were reported as paid to Finance.
