Business owner Jessica Wortham tells council grievance committee cleared her of lying allegation

During the public-comment portion of the Baldwin City Council meeting, Jessica Wortham identified herself as a business owner and addressed an allegation that she had lied to the council. "It was brought to my attention that someone has been saying that I had lied to the council," Wortham said, and reported that she self‑reported the complaint to a grievance committee which reviewed the records and "found that I made no error."
Wortham said she gave legal advice to the council based on the written lease language, noting that leases assign tax responsibility to the lessor, and urged the council not to reopen past questions on who is fiscally responsible for property taxes. Chair thanked Wortham for self-reporting and said it "shows strong ethics."
