Transfer station reports more than 200 hours on new electric loader; town struggles to obtain contractor estimates

Rusty Scott, Transfer Station Supervisor, told the Select Board the facility’s new electric loader has accumulated more than 200 hours of operation with no reported problems. He said the transfer station has started shipping accumulated loads and now works with new cardboard, electronic and plastic brokers based in New York and Maine.
Scott reported the new furnace is installed and that radiators were removed from town hall; he said remaining radiator removal will be handled next year and new heat pipes will be insulated in the coming weeks. He also noted he has received one estimate from Blaktop for transfer station work and is actively seeking additional bids for the recycling building but contractors are scarce and often too busy to provide free estimates.
Selectman Lavoie asked that department heads keep a paper record of estimates sought and received to document due diligence for future budget decisions; Town Manager Cyr suggested revisiting the procurement policy to address the challenge of obtaining contractor estimates.
