Nephi council hears Fire Board update: new firefighter ratified, ladder truck planned

Councilor JD Parady reported to the Nephi City Council on Jan. 20 about recent Fire Board actions. The report recorded that Ryker Spencer was ratified as a new firefighter for Nephi and that building inspectors are required to attend training related to HB 48 (the Wildlife Mitigation Bill). Parady said the fire department intends to buy a smaller ladder truck (65 feet) than the current 75-foot unit and is applying for a Community Impact Board (CIB) grant to fund the purchase; if the grant is obtained, the current truck would be cascaded down to another department.
The update came as part of routine administrative reports and no formal council vote on the fire department items was recorded in the minutes. Council members discussed the items as informational updates; any equipment purchase will require separate procurement and possible grant follow-up.
