During a work session on Jan. 20, Rhett and Ann Peterson, members of the Mt. Nebo Communication Council, presented the JustServe initiative and outlined how Nephi could become a JustServe City. The Petersons described JustServe as a free, web- and app-based volunteer-matching platform funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and outlined the steps the city would need to take to qualify for a Volunteerism proclamation and for Global JustServe City recognition.
Key requirements noted by the presenters include adopting a Volunteerism proclamation, emailing the signed proclamation to Awards@JustServe.org, listing local service opportunities on JustServe.org, encouraging participation across diverse groups and formally recognizing volunteers. The council agreed to proceed with the initiative and plans to present a proclamation at the Feb. 3 council meeting.
The city did not vote on any binding commitment or financial contribution during the meeting; the action recorded was agreement to move forward and to place a proclamation on the Feb. 3 agenda.
