Superintendent Highlights CTE Grants, Income-Tax Shift and Rural Athletic Grants from Recent Legislature

The superintendent opened his report with a legislative update, identifying bills the district will track for potential impact.

He described a $65 million career-technical education grant program (introduced by Speaker Schultz) as “serendipitous” given the district’s recent CDE center at the high school and said the district is positioning to apply. He also flagged Senate Bill 37, which he said will gradually change the balance between property and income tax and could make districts more dependent on income-tax revenues over time. The superintendent noted House Bill 267 (collective bargaining changes) had generated debate during the session but said it was not expected to have a large immediate impact in the district.

The superintendent also called attention to House Bill 262, a rural school athletic facilities grant that provides up to $500,000 to qualifying districts; he said Morgan School District believes it will qualify and plans to apply to support athletic-facilities improvements. The board indicated interest in pursuing these funding opportunities and in reviewing the detailed implications at an upcoming USSA meeting the superintendent and business administrator plan to attend.

The district will explore grant applications and return with recommendations where appropriate.
